How to Get Relief from Stuffy Nose with Acupressure Therapy?

Acupressure therapy helps you get quick relief from stuffy nose or nasal congestion. Few days ago, during the change of season I became sick with flu symtoms, sore throat, fatigue and which lasted to stuffy nose. One day with a low grade fever I suffered from severe nasal congestion and I was scared that it may interfere with sleep as I was breathing with mouth. As nasal congestion also interferes with the ears, hearing, and speech development, it was very uncomfortable. I searched the net for acupressure points for the symptoms. I didn't started acupressure therapy as there are many acupoints which I mentioned at my post: 'Effective remedy for cold and flu--' and 'relief from sinositis' because due to fever and severe sore throat I started taking antibiotics. My priority was to get relief from stuffy nose and I was successful to find effective acupoints for relief of nasal congestion.

The best remedy I tried myself was from 'MindEnergy.net' which I tried myself (I added two more points) and got relief within 20 minutes.

Isn't it amazing?

'Mind Energy.net' suggests: Perform the below routine 3 times:

  • Perform 10 pressures on a cavity at the corner of the nostrils (point 1). You should almost close and open the nostrils when you do the round movement.
  • Perform 10 pressures on a cavity just below the corner of the eyes near the nose (point 2)
  • Perform 10 pressures on a cavity just below the ear, behind the earlobe (point 3)
  • Massage the earlobe 10 times (point 4)
  • After performing the above 3 times, you should feel immediate relief of your nasal congestion. It is advised to return on the above procedure again in about 10 minutes to make it more permanent or the congestion could return.
  • Additional instructions: The pressures are actually round movement. Look at the pictures for exact motion.

I added two more points to get relief from nasal congestion which are GB20 and LI4. Application of thumb pressure on LI 4 has been shown to help alleviate constipation and has also been beneficial for some in helping to relieve headaches. It is also a beneficial point to relieve pain.

To locate the LI 4: Make an O with your thumb and index finger so that a small bulge of muscle rises just above the web of skin between the index finger and thumb on the back of the hand.

How to apply pressure to the point: Take one hand in a tweezers grip between your thumb and index finger, with your thumb resting on Large Intestine 4 and the tip of the index finger on the other side of the hand as a balancing point, apply steady pressure and then circling pressure for one to two minutes each. Please note that acupressure to Large Intestine 4 should not be utilized during pregnancy as this can stimulate uterine contractions.

These acupressure points GB20 regulate the circulation into the brain, they are called the Gates of the Mind, and are also known as the Gates of Consciousness. These Acupressure points relieve pain by releasing the body’s natural pain relievers known as endorphins. By opening the healing energy through these Acupressure points you can relieve stiffness, especially stiff necks, arthritic pains, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

The picture here shows the way to hold and press the points.

How I applied acupressure to the specific points?

I use the techniques learned from acupressure expert (our teacher) which is to apply pressure with thumb, finger or wooden tool with 'press, release, press' with smooth intervals. Count the pressures until it is 20 to 50 per session. You may repeat the session 2 or 3 times a day.
